I'm still wondering whether yesterday's puzzle was easy or hard. Especially when I look at yesterday's
NYT Wordle review and see that 15% of users on the WordleBot did not solve it. I can see if you landed on OUND late and were stuck deciding between H/F/B/W for the first letter, but I feel like you would've eliminated letters in there. Another interesting point brought up in the review was the author's feeling that the point of the game was to try to get the answer in one guess. I just can't agree with that reasoning because getting it in one is just dumb luck. To me, the point is to get the answer in four. I feel like I've seen that in enough of the reviews to feel that there is a consensus around that idea. I also recall seeing someone on Twitter mention that 4 should be par and everything is plus or minus relative to that. I really like that idea. For the record, I'm 34 over par, which: not great, Bob.
Anyway, moving to today's puzzle, I get back to my usual strategy of an A/E word and go with SHARE. The H is green, but nothing else is. Now I'm torn on which letter to put in front of H. I'm deciding between C/T/W. I go C and guess CHUNK. My guess for C is wrong, but I chose the correct vowel and now have HU in green. Once I see that, the only thing that pops into my mind is THUMP. I hesitate for a bit because I feel like I should try to see if there are other vowels in the word or not. Ultimately, I just can't find anything that would fit, so THUMP it is for guess three.
THUMP is correct. So I get it in three and feel really good. Again, today felt like a relatively easy puzzle, but I fully concede that I got a bit lucky by going with SHARE for my first guess instead of a similar word like TRACE. But I feel good about it. My streak is up to 7 and I got my cumulative par score down to +33.
