Well, this blog has gotten off to a rocky start. I had gotten my streak up to 58, but then totally forgot to play Wordle last Wednesday and my streak was broken. I also missed a lot of posts, and there really isn't a point in publishing my thoughts on puzzles from last week at this point. But I did enjoy that SNAFU was yesterday's answer.
Well, new beginnings. My streak is currently sitting at 4 since I started over on Thursday. I open today's game with PLATE which only yields a yellow square for the E. Even though I don't like guessing a repeating letter early in the game, I decide to go with MESSY for my second guess. I should've stuck to my guns and not guessed it since every letter is wrong again with the exception of the E. So now I've got to figure out where this E is going.
With only the E, I decide I need to nail the location of this letter down on my next guess so I can start moving forward. I try putting E at the front, but with the letters that I have eliminated so far, I'm not able to come up with anything I like as a guess. I decide to put E in the third position and type in GRE. At this point I realize I could go with GREED or GREEN as a guess and figure out the E goes. I'm not a fan of guessing another repeating letter, but I need to make some forward movement on this, so I decide to go with GREEN. It is spring, so that makes sense. Okay, that gets me the a green box for the E on the fourth spot and yellows for the R and the N. I decide to guess DINER for my fourth guess which gives me an R at the end of the word and yellows for N and D.
The solution for this has to be UNDER, right? Yep, that's the solution. Under is a fun and fair word, I think. It's tough because I don't think many people are throwing U's into their guesses, but we've had two days in a row where U was in the solution. But it's plenty fair because all the other letters are common guesses.
