Back to the blog after the weekend. I think going forward, I'll do the Friday post and then a weekend catch up. I didn't post this Friday, but that's the plan from here out. If I write it down, that will hold me to it. I got all three days to run my currently modest streak up to 4. I don't recall Friday's puzzle, but Saturday's solution of AGONY was quite anything but; I was able to solve in three, which is always a good feeling. Sunday's puzzle was a struggle. I got the last three letters of the answer, but had no idea what to start the word with. I did a lot of guessing before getting to DWELT on my fifth guess. But there was a long period of time where I was convinced that the boxes were lying to me about what letters were correct and incorrect.
Today's puzzle was not super fun, although I was able to solve in four. I only had the middle letter I in my first three guesses. I did not think doing something like that was even possible. I opened with PRICE. With that I in the middle and E eliminated, I figured that the second vowel for the word would be next to the I. Trying to get a second vowel in the word led to my guess of LOINS since it was the first word that came to mind with the OI combination. When that did not yield and positive results, I quickly moved to AMITY, which again did not give me any new letters.
So now I was truly stumped. I couldn't get to a real guess. I wanted BUILD or GUILD, but the L was already eliminated in my second guess. I didn't have a next place to go with my guesses and briefly considered walking away for a bit to let my mind reset. Sometimes, I find that helps, but I kept the app open and started looking through my available letters for any combinations that could go together. I got WH, but I didn't know what to do with it since answers like WHITE or WHICH couldn't be correct. I stuck with it and submitted WHIFF for my fourth guess, expecting it to be a total whiff, but to my delight, all five blocks turned over green. A tough word, and a puzzle that I feel good about as I reflect back on my solving experience. Granted, my feeling toward it is biased by the result. Anyways, I think the blocks look pretty cool, so I'm including with today's post. The streak is now at 5 days.
