I've been cranking away at the Worldes, but I have had a chance to write anything about them. Friday was tough, I got the solve on my sixth and final guess. Saturday was a solve in four, and yesterday was a solve in five. I want to get the workweek started off strongly, so I can get some solves in three this week. I opened with FUDGE today because it was an answer that tripped me up on the NYT Daily Mini crossword. FUDGE didn't really help me out, with only a yellow tile for the E, but it got me going. I didn't really want to start the word with E, so I played around looking for words where it was the second letter. Instead of looking for a second vowel, I landed on PERCH for my second guess. This was very fruitful as I got greens for E, C, and H.
This is where I decided I would really focus in and try to get a solve in three. As noted in the intro, it's been a while since I had a birdie, so when my second guess turned up so many positive letters, I decided to go for it. I was struggling to find a word, so I was looking at the ending of the word based on what I had. R was out as the third letter, but maybe T? XETCH? FETCH, LETCH? FETCH is a good word, but F can't be in the answer. Switching T for N led me to WENCH, which didn't really inspire confidence. Then I thought maybe a vowel could be the third letter. XEACH is good. I thought about REACH, LEACH, and then I thought, "hey, a lot of people are going back to school today, maybe it's a themed answer?" I don't know if themed answers are even a thing anymore after the Thanksgiving/FEAST backlash, but I can't resist it. I hit enter on TEACH and get a gray T followed by four greens. Damn. From here, I decide that BEACH is probably my best guess, and I hit enter for a solve in four. So close. Insert Ken joke about my job being BEACH. That pushes my streak up to 131, which is a pretty good feeling. I'll get it in three tomorrow.
